What kind of fabric is best?

Weight On Me Therapy Blankets are made with only 100% Naturally Grown Cotton Fabrics.  No Synthetic Fabrics are Used in our Blankets.
When Weight On Me Was Founded, We found that Natural Cotton,  is the safest, the coolest, and most breathable fabric.  Cotton comes in many options such as traditional woven, soft flannels, textured corduroy, warmer and different thicknesses of textured chenille, different weights of denim, mid-weight twill, heavy-weight duck-cloth,  and sateen. We back our Weight On Me Weighted Blankets in super soft and cozy flannels. They are snuggly soft and ready to hug you up!  For those that do not care for soft, we do have woven cotton options for the backings as well as a cotton chenille upgrade. Just ask! We use 100% cotton products in all of our blankets  because we put safety first...and always. Polyesters such as fleecesynthetic fabrics can cause overheating, and pose suffocation risks, especially to younger children and pets.

What Size Blanket Should I get? And, Does Blanket Size Matter for Children?

Blankets are made to fit an individual, and not the bed. Weighted Blankets should not hang over the side, but lay on top of the bed, and on the individual. Buying a blanket too large in size (area) for a child is not effective as the pounds per square inch will be distributed throughout the entire blanket and a smaller amount of weight will be on the child, reducing the 10% + 1 pound desired ratio. Blanket size does matter.  Please let us know if you have any questions on size and weight.

What makes weighted blankets heavy?

We use Non-Toxic Hypo-Allergenic Poly Pellets to fill our blankets, securely micro-stitched into 4-6" pockets, and evenly distributed. We do not add other fillers which can cause  matting, and a  bulky hot blanket.

Our Weighted Blankets are 100% washable in your home*.  We designed ours to be the coolest option, year round!

These plastic pellets are BPA free and completely safe. (As with all non-food items, we prefer you don't eat them, but if for some reason it happens, they won't harm your child.)

We offer a glass bead upgrade for an additional charge of $1.99/lb for standard blankets (contact us)

They are standard fill for Organic Blankets.

Glass beads can be a good option when wanting less bulk as they are more dense than plastic. Because they are so small (1.5-2.5mm spheres)  they are break-resistant and safe..They do not contain lead or any other toxic substance.

We do NOT use blast media glass!

OrganicWeighted Blanketscome standard with glass.  Poly Pellets (many times recycled) can be substituted upon request.

*Extra Heavy Blankets may require larger or Industrial Size Machines, found at most public laundromats

How Much Weight?

10% of Body Weight + 1 Pound

The industry Standard for Therapeutic Weighted Blankets is 10% of Body Weight + 1 Pound. (We then rounded up to the next whole pound for children 3+) This weight should be distributed, and sewn into pockets throughout a size appropriate blanket. Weight On Me holds by this weight recommendation, but does recommend you speak with your OT, doctor or other Therapist if you have one.

CAUTION: Please beware of recommendations that go much out of these standards. We will not knowingly make these blankets for your young children. If you feel like your therapist is making an unsafe recommendation, please get another opinion for the health and safety of your child.
